Jimmy Eat World 2007 auf dem Highfield-Festival

Das Highfield-Festival ist ein jährlich stattfindendes Musik-Festival, das am Stausee Hohenfelden (südlich von Erfurt) seinen Ursprung hat und von 1998 bis 2009 dort stattfand. Der Name leitet sich vom Ortsnamen Hohenfelden ab (englisch high field – hohes Feld). Seit 2010 ist der neue Veranstaltungsort des Festivals der Störmthaler See bei Großpösna im Landkreis Leipzig.

Das Festival hat sich in den letzten Jahren als wichtigstes Indie-Rock-Festival in den neuen Bundesländern etabliert. Seit der ersten Austragung stiegen die Besucherzahlen kontinuierlich von 10.000 auf fast 25.000 im Jahr 2006. Veranstalter sind FKP Scorpio, die viele große Festivals im deutschsprachigen Raum ausrichten, sowie Semmel Concerts, die besonders in Bayern, Berlin und Ostdeutschland aktiv sind. 2008 war das Festival mit 25.000 Besuchern erstmals ausverkauft.

Als „Schwesterfestival“ hat sich seit 2005 das Area4-Festival in Westdeutschland etabliert, welches 2009 zum dritten Mal in Lüdinghausen stattfand. Ein großer Anteil der Musikgruppen, die beim Highfield-Festival auftreten, spielen auch auf dem Area4-Festival, das traditionsgemäß über dasselbe Wochenende stattfindet.

Im September 2008 wurde bekannt, dass das Festival ab 2010 nicht mehr am Stausee stattfindet, weil es Probleme mit der Verschmutzung der für das Campen und Parken benutzten Felder sowie Störungen des normalen Betriebs des Stauseegeländes gab.^{[1] [2]}

1998

Das erste Highfield-Festival hatte 10.000 Besucher. Es spielten u. a.:

Das Highfield-Festival fand nicht mehr in Hohenfelden statt, sondern auf der Magdeborner Halbinsel am Störmthaler See in Großpösna. Rund 22.000 Besucher sahen unter anderem folgende Bands:

2012 wird das Highfield Festival vom 17.-19. August wieder am Störmthaler See stattfinden. Als Headliner wurden bereits die Beatsteaks sowie Placebo angekündigt, außerdem Sportfreunde Stiller, The Black Keys, Social Distortion, Within Temptation, Broilers, Labrassbanda, Casper, The Wombats, Bonaparte, Me First & The Gimme Gimmes, Jupiter Jones, Bosse, Kraftklub, K.I.Z., Kvelertak, H-Blockx, Kilians, Eevery Time i Die, Letlive., Polar Bear Club
