Statistisches Amt ist die Behörde oder behördenähnliche Institution, welche die amtliche Statistik eines Staates, eines Landes oder einer Kommune erstellt.

Deutschsprachiger Raum

• Statistisches Bundesamt Deutschland (DESTATIS), die Statistischen Landesämter und die Statistischen Ämter der Kommunen. Aufgrund der föderalen Struktur sind in Deutschland (anders als in den meisten anderen Staaten) die Kommunen für innergebietliche Statistiken zuständig, weshalb es vor allem in Großstädten ein eigenes Statistisches Amt für die Aufgaben der Kommunalstatistik gibt, die in der Regel durch eine kommunale Statistiksatzung geregelt sind.
• Statistik Austria (STAT, ehemals Österreichisches Statistisches Zentralamt/ÖSTAT) – die Länder haben keine eigenen Ämter, nur Dienststellen, auf Gemeindeebene sind Meldeamt und Standesamt für statistische Erhebungen zuständig
• Bundesamt für Statistik der Schweiz (BFS), sowie die statistischen Ämter der Kantone und der Kommunen
